If I were to ask you who this picture is of, you would no doubt say, "Jesus." People often see Jesus in the clouds, or in a stain on a window, or who knows what. I often wonder how they know it is Jesus. Strictly from artists' pictures, most people would recognize Jesus as being European, long brown hair parted in the middle with a short beard that also is parted in the middle. However, there is no record in the Bible of what Jesus looked like. Since the Jews were forbidden to make any images, there were no artists or sculptors

in Judea in Jesus' day. There were no cameras, so, how do we know what Jesus looked like?

The truth is, we don't. But what we do know is that H e didn't look like this picture. He was not European, nor African, nor Oriental, nor Hispanic; He was a Jew, a Semite. I got over men wearing long hair some time ago, but Jesus did not have long hair because the Jews in Jesus' day did not wear long hair. Jesus did have a beard (Isa. 50:6) and since the Jews were not to "mar" the corners of their beards (Lev. 19:27), Jesus probably had a much fuller beard.

British scientists, assisted by Israeli archeolgists, have re-created what they believe is the most accurate image of a typical Galilean Jew in the time of Jesus. This image, though not exactly what Jesus looked like, is a lot closer than the pictures we typically see depicting Jesus. The website showing the results of this re-creation is copyrighted so we can only provide a link to it:

While it really doesn't make a lot of difference what Jesus looked like while He was here on earth, this website is interesting.
